1 Simple Post-Fall Cleaning Tip for Metal Roofing You Can Do Yourself
Homeowners often overlook the basics such as a simple post-fall metal roof cleaning.
Although metal roofing is designed to last, you can help ensure its longevity with proper and simple maintenance. Trapped fall debris on roofs and in gutters, such as leaves, moss, sticks, and dirt, in conjunction with the higher moisture levels of winter, can contribute to the premature aging of roof surfaces through permanent discoloration or premature corrosion.
Key areas to check and clean include valleys, roof transitions, and behind chimneys. Additional Tips for roof or siding maintenance are generally identified in the warranty provided by your metal roofing or siding product manufacturer.
For metal roofing, a simple rinse with a hose using tap water is sufficient; however, a 1/3 cup of Tide® detergent dissolved in one gallon of water, followed by a clear rinse can be used for more stubborn roof grime – but don’t use abrasives or chemical cleaners as it can damage the metal!
